Drowning Prevention Strategy Update

Drowning Prevention Strategy Implementation Plan 2005 - 2015 (PDF 2.6 MB)

On the 25 June 2007 Cabinet approved the Drowning Prevention Strategy Implementation Plan 2007-201. The plan takes each of the Strategy’s eight objectives and lists key action areas, with associated activities, required to meet the specific objective. The expected results are outlined, along with timelines.

One of the key priorities identified in this Plan is to review the leadership framework for the Strategy and the water safety sector. This work was initiated in 2006 and is expected to be finalised and implemented over the next two years. The IMG initiated the leadership review and has also led some of the activities in the Plan that needed to be progressed during 2006 and 2007 while the review was being undertaken. An immediate outcome of the review is the establishment of a Drowning Prevention Council (DPC), which will take over the IMG’s interim role and provide the strategic leadership required to achieve the deliverables in this Plan. The DPC will be appointed from key stakeholders within the water safety sector and government.
