International Injury Comparison Reports
At the first Injury Prevention Ministerial Committee meeting, a report was requested to give “A brief summary of New Zealand’s injury information and a comparison to other similar OECD countries including situations where the injury rates were below or above international comparisons”.
This led to the Strategy’s Secretariat commissioning the Injury Prevention Research Unit (IPRU, Otago University) to undertake the research and provide the potential threats to validity of those comparisons.
A three phase approach was adopted to enable IPRU to plan and undertake the work, with the IPRU to provide summaries for two of the Strategy’s injury priority areas at each subsequent meeting of the Committee. This resulted in the IPRU providing the first set of reports on the priority areas of Road traffic and Falls. |
