Launch of the 2006/07 Safekids campaign

On 13 October the National Poisons Centre launched its Poisons Prevention website, this event also marked the beginning of the 2006/07 Safekids campaign.

The launch was held at the Sacred Heart School in Dunedin and was attended by Ministers Hon Pete Hodgson and Hon David Benson Pope, as well as representatives of the National Poisons Centre, Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) NZ, Plunket, Police, members of the Dunedin Safekids coalition and Ministry of Health.

The event included a video link with the Starship Children’s Health in Auckland, from where Lara Ward, mother of Joshua who was seriously injured nearly two years ago as a result of ingesting dishwashing powder, spoke of the dangers of childhood poisoning and need for more education, and awareness to help assist in  the prevention of poisoning.
